Vizier Paser– An Influential Man in a Magnificent Period of Ancient Egyptian History by Heather Edwards

Vizier Paser lived during the reigns of two of Egypt’s most dynamic rulers, Seti 1 and his son Ramses II. We will try to discover something of the life and work of this important personage.

Heather has visited Egypt at least 65 times and has travelled in most areas of the country as well as other areas of the Middle East. In 2001 she was awarded the Certificate in Egyptology at the University of Manchester. Heather has been an AEMES Committee Member for a number of years and is currently the Society Chairman.

12:45 Lunch (included) followed by:

The Colossi of Memnon by John Johnson

This talk will perhaps answer some of the many questions about the site and the statues known as the Colossi of Memnon:
• Early travellers i.e. Hadrian, and the reasons for their visits
• Who the site was constructed for, and also its design
• Materials used, what they represented and from where they came.
• The ladies depicted on the statues, their crowns, head-dresses and royal titles.
• Graffiti.
• Recent finds and ongoing work.

John studied three years at Manchester University between 1990 and 1993. He teaches Egyptology, history and middle Egyptian hieroglyphs at Abraham Guest College and at Bolton and Standish. John also founded the Horus Egyptology Society in 2001.
